Lumbar Spinal Stenosis

Lumbar canal stenosis is a condition where the space in your lower back (the lumbar spine) where the nerves travel becomes narrowed. This can happen because of wear and tear on the bones and discs in your spine, or due to other changes like arthritis. When the space gets tighter, it can put pressure on the nerves that go to your legs and feet.

This pressure can cause symptoms like:

  • Pain in the lower back or legs, especially when standing or walking
  • Numbness or tingling in the legs or feet
  • Weakness in the legs
  • Trouble walking or balancing

The pain often gets better when you sit down or bend forward because it takes the pressure off the nerves. Treatment for lumbar canal stenosis might include physical therapy, medications, and sometimes surgery, depending on the severity of the condition.
